CCNE Accreditation

It gives us great pleasure to announce that on Tuesday, April 27, 2010,
the Commission on College Nursing Education (CCNE) informed the IWU
School of Nursing that it has been granted 10 more years of
accreditation for both the Bachelor of Science in Nursing and the Master
of Science in Nursing programs. Further, the School was notified that
the Commission found no compliance concerns.

We are filled with joy and thanksgiving for this great report. The
successful preparation, writing, and visit were a team effort by the
faculty and staff of the newly created School of Nursing. Our programs
in the three divisions (Division of Graduate Studies, Division of
Post-licensure Studies, and Division of Pre-licensure Studies) were
reviewed and deemed excellent! We look forward to maintaining
excellence while we continue to mature as a cohesive, Christ-centered,
mission-focused School of Nursing.

Rejoice with us as we celebrate 10 more years of accreditation with the
CCNE!

WIWU-TV BROADCASTS NAIA TOURNAMENTS
WIWU-TV will once again provide extensive coverage of the NAIA men's and
women's basketball tournaments, following the teams from Indiana
Wesleyan University,
and this year will broadcast each IWU game live on the TV channel.
WIWU-TV made
special arrangements with the NAIA to simulcast the previously
online-only webcast,
provided for subscribers to the national tournament. "This is a first
for us and the NAIA,
" said Randall E. King, Director of Broadcast Media for the university.
"It won't look
quite like our usual television broadcasts, but it will be live action
from all the games,
bringing great basketball action home to our viewers in Grant County."
he said. The
broadcasts begin on Wednesday, March 10 at 6:00 p.m. from Sioux City,
Iowa with the
IWU Women's opening round game, against Concordia University of
Nebraska. The
men's team kicks off its tournament from Branson, Missouri on Thursday,
March 11 at
6:30 p.m., facing the University of Virginia-College at Wise.

In addition to the television broadcasts, WIWU-TV also provides
thorough, 24
hour coverage through a special tournament website - "Wildcat Central",
available at
www.wiwutv51.com. This is the 4th year for "Wildcat Central", which
receives thousands
of page visits from IWU fans across the country. The site includes
player interviews,
video feature stories, daily updates and links to connect with the
Wildcat coverage
through social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter. "Wildcat
Central on
www.wiwutv51.com is the best place to see the latest news, game
summaries, statistics,
photos and video clips from games, practices and off-court activities.",
says WIWU-TV
promotions manager Kyle Hufford. In addition to video, photos and
updates WIWU-TV
will also produce special tournament editions of Wildcat Week with live
interviews with
the men's coach Greg Tonagel and women's coach Steve Brooks.

In addition to Wildcat Central, the IWU Athletics page,
www.iwuwildcats.com,
will offer daily pictures and updates from the tournaments. All
tournament games will be
broadcast live on Hoosier Radio Stations, WBAT 1400AM and WMRI 860AM.

Intresting article on an alumnus

I receive the alumni magazine from Fuller Theological Seminary called "Fuller Focus".  The winter issue arrived today and a significant article was included on an alum from IWU, Sam Bills (Rose Freeman).

Sam was also part of my college ministry when I served as the Chi Alpha pastor at College Church.

IWU NEWS: Former SGO President Clark Vandeventer running for United States Congressman from California!!

This week my son Clark will officially enter the race for the 23^rd District Congressional Seat from California to the United States Congress. He credits IWU in the preparation it gave him as he embarks on this huge challenge and opportunity. Be watching for the official announcement later this week as Alumni Relations will be posting the press release in Alumni News at that time.

 

Yesterday, I learned Clark will need thousands of mini-Clark bars. For many of you who were on campus in 2000 this may sound familiar. During Clark’s successful run for SGO president at IWU in 2000-2001, mini-Clark bars were one of Clark’s campaign gimmicks. Marion and much of Indiana experienced a run on “Clark” bars during that time. Hopefully, a run is on the horizon not only here but all across the 23^rd Congressional District of California.

 

If you want to help encourage Clark, I will be accepting donations of mini-Clark bars at the Alumni House. I will ship these out to Clark leading up to the California Primary in June and the general election in November. This is one small way we can all take part in helping Clark bring Christian values to California 23^rd District and to his becoming the next United States Congressman from California.

IWU Donates $44,000 to Haiti Relief Fund

Indiana Wesleyan University students and employees collected $22,000 for a Haiti Relief Fund, and IWU President Henry Smith said the University would match the offering dollar for dollar.

“Thank you so much for your participation,” Smith told students and faculty at IWU’s Monday chapel service. “I think if we continue our efforts for a few more days, we can get to $50,000.”

A check for the $44,000 already raised was presented Monday to Dr. H.C. Wilson, General Director of Global Partners, which is the missionary arm of The Wesleyan Church.

“On behalf of the people of Haiti, who have been so devastated by this earthquake, I want to say thank you,” Wilson said. “You have no idea how profound your impact will be as Haiti seeks to rebuild.”

The Haiti Relief Fund at IWU began two weeks ago with an offering in chapel. The offering later was extended to IWU’s 1,000 employees and to adult education students at 15 regional campuses in Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky.

The denomination took an offering for earthquake relief Sunday at Wesleyan churches around the world, but Wilson said it would be weeks before all of those funds are received and tallied.

The Wesleyan Church has several missionaries in Haiti and operates a hospital on the island of La Gonave. IWU is an institution of The Wesleyan Church.

The Wesleyan Church is an evangelical, Protestant denomination, which has its roots in John Wesley’s Methodism. The denomination has nearly 400,000 constituents in 5,000 churches and missions in 80 countries around the world.

The world headquarters of the denomination are in Fishers, Indiana.

Chapel-auditorium featured

The new chapel-auditorium was dedicated on January 13, 2010, the first service held in the 3,800-seat facility.  The $22 million building, which is the tallest and most significant in IWU history, represents a commitment to the spiritual foundation of the campus.  The auditorium will serve as the campus chapel and provide assembly space for large campus and community events such as graduations, conferences, lecture series and concerts

There are two levels of seating in the building, with the balcony seats extending all the way to the first floor.  The exterior of the building features brick and glass, and the highest point just above the platform is 70 feet.
