Pictures of IWU alumni...

During the Alumni reception at West Michigan camp we welcomed over 30 alumni with their families and friends of IWU. Several alumni from Owosso College (former affiliated Wesleyan School) were in attendance also). The fellowship was exciting and the stories/memories shared were fun to listen to.

One picture shows several alumni of multi-generations: 1950's, 1960's, 1980's.

You are all aware that the new chapel is noticeably taking shape on the east side of our campus. In order for you to keep up with the exciting progress, we have installed a Chapel Construction Camera on top of the PPAC. You can keep up with the action by clicking on the link under "Recent News & Events" at www.indwes.edu that will allow you to see the constantly renewed images from the camera.

Red, White & Boom in Cincinnati - event summary

Congratulations Lonnie for your success with Red, White and Boom event.

We had a great time in Cincinnati on July 4th with the Red, White & Boom Celebration. I have attached three photos below showing part of the gatherings. Unfortunately, last minute cancellations and some heavy rain just prior to the start of the reception and during the reception caused our attendance to dwindle to 17 individuals. However, the rain subsided during the reception and those present were treated to a grand old celebration in music and singing followed by a fabulous fireworks celebration. The Cincinnati Pops and their accompanying parties did a through job of entertaining us throughout.

The recognition of former servicemen and servicewomen during the concert was extremely touching for Phillip Frohriep, Sr, alumnus (1995/2007), who had served in the U. S. Navy. He commented to me during the fireworks how much he enjoyed coming and being in attendance and is eager to help with future events. From little acorns mighty oaks do grow – we harvested some acorns on July 4 that will grow into huge oaks for God’s glory at Indiana Wesleyan.

Blessings,

Lonnie

New Hall now Martin Hall at IWU Marion Campus

New Hall, which opened in 2004 as a 210 bed women’s dormitory, has been named in honor of Dr. Glenn Martin and his wife, Betty.  The ceremony for Martin Hall was held April 3, 2008 in the lobby of the residence hall.

Glenn Martin, who died in May 2004, served as Professor of History and Political Science at IWU for nearly 40 years and chaired the Division of Social Sciences for 30 years.  Students twice named him Professor of the Year.

Betty Martin worked in the IWU Advancement Department for many years.  She still lives in Marion, a few blocks from campus.

In 1977, Dr. Martin was asked to lecture in Hawaii for Youth With a Mission, which began a long series of international travel.  For more than 30 years, during summer and on academic breaks, Dr. Martin lectured around the world.

As a result of Dr. Martin’s travels, many people because productive in reformation endeavors around the world.  In addition, about 200 students were attracted to IWU to continue their studies.
