Dr. R. Duane Thompson, 78, Chairman of the Indiana Wesleyan University
Division of Religion and Philosophy for 17 years, died at 12:15 a.m.
Wednesday (May 6) in Community Hospital North, Indianapolis. He taught
at IWU for 40 years before retiring in 1997.
Dr. Thompson had lived in Indianapolis for several years.
Dr. Thompson was a native of Marion and graduated from Sweetser High
School. He earned a bachelor's degree from IWU in 1952 and also had a
master's degree from Butler University and a doctoral degree in
philosophy from Boston University. He was a pastor of Wesleyan churches
in Ohio for seven years before he began his teaching career.
He is survived by his wife, Janet; a daughter, Renee Herrli, Marion; and
a son, Rev. R. Duane Thompson, Bethel Park, Pennsylvania.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the old College Wesleyan
Church in Marion. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at
Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, in Marion.
